What is Liquefied Natural Gas?
LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to a liquid state at approximately -260°F (-162°C). This process dramatically shrinks its volume, making it possible to transport massive amounts of energy over long distances where a traditional pipeline is not feasible. The LNG Virtual Pipeline is the entire process of liquefying, transporting, and then regasifying the fuel for use by a customer.
The High-Density Advantage
The primary benefit of converting natural gas to a liquid is the incredible reduction in volume. LNG occupies about 1/600th the volume of natural gas at standard temperature and pressure. This makes it far more efficient for transport compared to both standard pipeline gas and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
A Matter of Purity: The Case for LNG
Another key benefit of liquefaction is that it purifies the fuel. As the gas is cooled, impurities like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water are removed, resulting in a cleaner fuel with a consistent energy value (BTU).
This high purity provides a consistent, efficient burn (a clean, blue flame) and reduces emissions compared to pipeline gas, which has a less consistent composition.
How It Works: A Three-Part Process

1. Liquefaction
Natural gas is cooled to a liquid state, reducing its volume for efficient long-distance transport.

2. Transport
The super-cooled LNG is moved in specialized, heavily insulated cryogenic tanks to the destination site.

3. Regasification
At the customer's site, the liquid is converted back into gas through a process of warming, ready for use.

The high-volume nature of LNG makes it ideal for powering large-scale, off-grid operations. It serves as a reliable fuel source for industries that require a continuous, substantial energy supply located far from traditional pipeline infrastructure.
